It’s difficult to say just through researching the true story how accurate this film is and how true it is to the original film adaption but it’s a very raw, heart warming portrayal of a dog and its owner and the actors do a brilliant job. It’s very slow moving with no real direction to begin with and although it has a poetic feel about it, it is ultimately very strange. It is unfortunate that the original Japanese film is so difficult to get hold of, the authenticity of the 2009 remake is tainted by the Americanised cast, setting and overall style.Īlthough Hachi: A Dog’s Tale is a beautiful family film with a decent cast and a tear-jerking true story the film plays out almost as a montage with no real substance or plot to it. His immense loyalty and love for his adoptive owner has become something of a legend.

The titular Hachi-kō,a gorgeous Akita Inu, was found at a train station in Tokyo by a professor at the nearby University of Tokyo and waited for him every day at the same station until long after his master’s death. Hachi: A Dog’s Tale is a remake of the Japanese film Hachi-kō released in 1987 and like many true story films has been hugely Americanised. When no one comes forward to claim Hachi, Parker Wilson ( Richard Gere) manages to persuade his less-than-convinced wife to keep the dog and he becomes a valued and loved member of the family.

I 200% recommend you to watch this movie and do prepare the tissue box next to you.A family drama with a decent cast and one of the most adorable dogs in film history, Hachi: A Dog’s Tale is perfect for anyone that understands that bond of undying love between a four legged friend and its owner and is a beautifully heart rending little film.īased on a true story, Hachi: A Dog’s Tale is about a college professor who finds an abandoned dog and forms an unconditional bond after bringing him into his home. Picture from ĩ.5/10 I think this is the highest rate I've given so far. I got to a point where the crying was uncontrollable that I made sounds and saw Snowy came into the room and stared at me. Hachi ran towards him, happy, delighted and alive again after waiting for so long.

Then he saw his master, Parker Wilson (starred by Richard Gere) calling for him 5 feet away. He sat and lied down with his head on his paws, eyes closed, ears down on both sides of his head. People came out from the door, only several people at that time. My crying got even worse when it was nearing the end and it showed Hachi got awakened by the last train on the railway one night, he got up, just as he'd been doing for the past 10 years of his life, walked towards the entrance of the train station without hesitation, with all the hopes in the world that he'd see his master again. I am so going to have my kids watch this movie in the future. From a real story, to think that a puppy could devote such amazing fondness, love and loyalty towards it's owner as it matures has such innocence, such awe to me that we humans I think, can only grasp so little of it. Tell you the truth, I cried for more than 1 hour for this movie since the 'tragedy' in it. I think this is a very good movie with good morales to be learnt from and everybody especially children should watch this and reflect ourselves. If you own a pet, it would be a sin to not watch this movie. I have cats and I've lost cats and I can very much relate to this movie. This movie circles around loyalty and how warm and affectionate pet owners and pets can be. This is most probably the most emotional, the most heart-warming, strikes-through-the-heart movie that I've ever seen in my whole entire life. ♥ Jason Alexander as Carl (guy works at the train station)

This American movie is a remake an old 1987 movie Japanese film "Hachikō Monogatari", based on a true story that happened in Japan in the early 90's. I saw Hachi: A Dog's Tale (2009) on HBO this morning.
